Meiji Imari design

Meiji Imari design c&s by Kisen - Akadami kinsai karakusa

Coffee cup and saucer with a wonderfully nostalgic feel from the Kisen kiln in Arita. The cup is decorated with patterns originally created for Imari porcelain exports in the Meiji period (the late 19th century). A wonderful way to bring a little taste of history into your everyday life.

This striking design is created by applying red pigment around the gold arabesque pattern. Born out of admiration for Western dinnerware designs, the Akadami kinsai karakusa pattern combines Western opulence with the exquisite sense of color and attention to detail for which Arita is so well known.
