Namako (Sea cucumber) Hagi tea bowl (Ippukuwan) by Seigan
A handsome tea bowl featuring the"namako"(sea cucumber) glaze, so called because the freckled effect resembles the body of the sea cucumber, a deep-sea creature common in Japan. The outside of the tea bowl has colors gradating from grey freckles on a rusty brown background around the rim to the greenish-brown freckles on creamy white on the main part of the body. The bottom part of the exterior is glazed in a pale grey, while the interior is glazed an even paler shade, accented with random greenish spots. This is a very natural-looking tea bowl with a pleasingly smooth texture.
