Hagi Sansai tea bowl (Ippukuwan) #1 by Seigan

 

An eye-catching ippukuwan with an unusual design feature. The clay on two sides is overlapped, creating a vertical ridge which is nicked in three places, rather resembling a shirt front. The thick white glaze has a beautiful landscape of greens, browns and pinks. The nicks around the base cause the glaze to glint in the light adding an extra dimension and accentuating the lustrous quality of this lovely piece.
