Two Cranes Framed Ceramic Painting by Yamakawa Iwao

The image of cranes is a popular one in Japanese pottery and is associated with good fortune. The two graceful cranes arching their necks up towards the moon in this beautiful painting on ceramic have been handpainted with careful brushstrokes which give the picture depth and texture. The soft muted colors perfectly capture the evening mood. The painter is a third generation craftsman. The first generation established a kiln in Kutani, while the second generation moved his craft to Kyoto where he produced tea ceremony ware. Yamakawa Iwao is carrying on the tea ceremony ware tradition while also showcasing his painting skills with original works such as these. Set in a wooden frame.
