Mandarin ducks yunomi teacups from the Kagetsu kiln

A pair of teacups traditionally known in Japan as "meoto" (husband and wife) teacups. The mandarin ducks motif is particularly fitting as this species,"oshidori" in Japanese, is known for the closeness of the male and female birds. Happy couples are often nick-named "oshidori fufu", roughly translated into the English equivalent of "a couple of lovebirds"!
The larger cup is decorated with pine branches and the smaller cup with plum blossom, which are in themselves good luck symbols.
Attractive and auspicious , a great way to enjoy tea for two!
