This hand-painted tapestry in natural tones perfectly captures the ambience of Kyoto. The characteristic texture of linen is beautifully accented by the carefully drawn figures who exude a sense of joviality and liveliness.
Profile of the artist: Born in Kyoto in 1953,Naka Sachimi started off her career as a painter in the kimono trade, learning traditional Kyo Yuzen techniques. She later studied Sumi Ink painting of the Maruyama School. After becoming independent at the age of 28, she has been utilising her experience and skills to create not only beautiful textiles but also original pieces such as these tapestries, paintings and other intrinsically Japanese interior decorations.
