Nezumi shino yunomi

Shino yunomi #9 by Hayashi Ryoji

This is a truly one-off piece. Normally a piece like this would not make it to the kiln or be put on the market as it has what can be perceived as an imperfection. When the body of this Nezumi shino yunomi was being scraped, a hole was made unintentionally. Instead of rejecting the piece however, the craftsman decided to cover the hole completely with the thick shino (feldspar) glaze.

This explains the patch of light that can be seen in the fourth picture from the top.
There is a vertical line (groove) on the glaze covering the hole but water does not leak out of it.
Respecting the craftsman's judgement, the yunomi has been included in this selection as an example of imperfection being perceived as unique and attractive.
The crackled glaze looks grey due to the clay color underneath.
