Raku chawan, inspired by Koetsu's Fujiyama chawan

A substantial chawan influenced by the work of Hon ami Koetsu, a noted 16th-17th century artist and calligrapher. The Fujiyama chawan is one of the most famous of Koetsu's ceramic works and is considered to be the embodiment of dignity. The name "Fujiyama", which was bestowed on the piece by Koetsu himself, is said to have two meanings. One refers to the white glaze which makes one think of the clouds surrounding the summit of the sacred mountain. Another meaning is a pun on the word "Fuji". Written in Kanji (Chinese characters)Fu-Ji can be read as "no-two", inferring that no two of these chawan can ever be completely the same.
