Kokudei Shikunshi ushirode teapot by Gyokudo #5

 

This lovely smooth teapot has four engraved panels featuring the traditional "shikunshi"motifs of orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum and plum blossoms. The panels have a textured background and the blossoms have been scraped to reveal the original shudei (orange clay) beneath. Vertical grooves on the sides give the pot a soft shape and the body has a beautiful burnished brown color.

Handcrafted in Tokoname, Japan by Gyokudo(1936-2012), winner of various national prizes. Approx. size: length (body + handle) 4.7" (12cm), height: 2.9"(7.6cm)
