Daikokuten teapot by Setsudo, engraved by Kodo

Daikokuten is traditionally viewed as a bountiful god.
Here he is depicted with rice bushels and "koban" (gold coins) and other treasure motifs.
The inscription tells of Daikokuten's origin from an Indian deity to a Buddhist god.
Originally regarded as the god of the kitchen, he later became considered as having a benign influence on harvests, leading to his image of the bringer of good fortune to the household. The clever use of color helps to add depth and movement, making the picture vivid and eye-catching.
