Ogura Hyakunin Isshu (one hundred Japanese poems by one hundred poets) engraved teapots

This is a set of two teapots inspired by Hyakunin Isshi. One teapot is engraved with the poems and the names of the poets. The other teapot is engraved with the likenesses of 100 poets.

Hyakunin Isshu is the name given to an anthology of classical Japanese poems in the "waka"style, compiled by Fujiwara no Teika (1162 – 1241), who is counted amongst the greatest Japanese poets of all time. Hyakunin Isshu consists of one hundred poems, each written by a different poet and has considerably influenced Japanese literature since its introduction.

The fact that Kodo even braved this amazing challenge is worthy of the greatest respect, let alone that the finished result is so accomplished!

The inscription around the lid reads "Ogura Hyakunin Isshu"(one hundred Japanese poems by one hundred poets).

Built-in handcrafted ceramic mesh infusor

The teapot is made by Setsudo
