Tokoname wood-fired shiboridashi teaware by Setsudo

Tokoname wood-fired shiboridashi #1 by Setsudo

Unique wood-fired items by Yoshikawa Setsudo, one of Tokoname's top potters.

Setsudo and his brother Kodo are carrying on the legacy of their father, Setsudo I, who was respected for his hand-throwing and engraving techniques. Elder brother Kodo has become a noted engraver in his own right while younger brother Setsudo has inherited his father's skill on the potter's wheel. Often working in conjunction with his brother, Setsudo produces thin, smooth, even pieces which provide the perfect base for Kodo's engraving. While finding collaborating on high-quality pieces very worthwhile, Setsudo has also been searching for another way of expressing

his artistic individuality in a rather more rustic style. These exquisite pieces created in a wood-fired Anagama kiln are the perfect testament to the overall quality of his work, from the hand-throwing of the clay, through the unique firing process to its eventual transformation into a one-off piece of Tokoname teaware.

Hand-crafted by craftsman, Yoshikawa Setsudo
