Floating cloud kyusu by Teruyuki

A very eye-catching kyusu. The pot is fired once at a high temperature to produce the grey color. Then it undergoes reduced firing with thin threads and straw (a technique known as Hidasuki) draped around it to achieve the vertical fire marks. The white band around the center is inlayed white clay. The overall effect seems to resemble a stormy scene from a traditional wood-bloc print. The bold lines are thunder, thin lines are rain and the white band a cloud floating in the sky. A highly artistic piece from a respected craftsman.

As this teapot is slightly bigger than the normal size, making a custom-made wooden box would prove expensive. In order to keep the price reasonable, it therefore comes in a cardboard box.
