Banko Wood-fired Haikaburi teapot by Otsuki Shun #62

Otsuki Shun is a promising young potter who takes pride in his craft during every stage of the creative process, deriving inspiration from the advice of experienced Banko craftsmen and tea ceremony masters.
The surface bears the spontaneous marks of haikaburi — natural ash glaze formed when wood ash settles and melts onto the clay during firing. This teapot is made from a clay blend featuring ochre clay from Mt. Tarusaka in Yokkaichi — the historic birthplace of Banko ware.

He is pushing the boundaries of tradition by wood-firing teapots: a technique rarely attempted with purple banko clay due to its fragility under high heat. The deep, lustrous sheen achieved over three days of firing is a testament to his dedication and pioneering spirit.
