Mayake Teapot Engraved with Jizou by Konishi Yohei #178

Jizou is a beloved Bodhisattva in Japan, traditionally regarded as a guardian of children, travellers, and people in need of protection.
The repeating Jizou motif creates a playful and distinctive surface, while the handmade nature of the engraving gives each face its own character.
This teapot was wood-fired in an anagama kiln, producing natural yohen (kiln effects) that enhance the depth and warmth of the clay surface.
