The Heart Sutra engraved mayake teapot by Konishi Yohei #198

This unique mayake teapot features an engraving of the Heart Sutra, one of the most widely known Buddhist scriptures in East Asia. The Heart Sutra has been copied, recited, and studied for centuries in Japan. Here, its characters are engraved directly into the clay surface, creating a rich, tactile texture and a distinctive visual presence. The expressive carving complements the natural character of the clay, making each teapot a unique work of craftsmanship. This teapot was wood-fired in an anagama kiln, producing natural yohen (kiln effects) that add depth and character to the engraved surface.
