Nabeshima seiji celadon vase by Choshun #2

Celadon pottery is thought to have first been produced to resemble the jade vases so admired by the ancient Emperors of China. It is therefore not surprising that Celadon, along with blue and white Sometsuke pieces, is well esteemed and considered to represent the highest quality. This small vase has a beautiful translucence. The natural celadon color is created through a careful process whereby layers of glaze are applied and repeatedly fired. The small amount of ferric compounds in the glaze react during de-oxidization, which occurs during the firing process. As a result a wonderful depth of color is achieved. Exuding a calm and peaceful aura, this vase can be used as a receptacle for a single bloom from the garden. Placed in a hallway, it would be the perfect way to welcome treasured guests. Handcrafted in Arita (Ookawachi area), Japan by Choshun Approx. Size: diameter at widest point, 2.6"(6.7cm); height, 6.6"(17cm)
