Bizen tumbler by Shibuta Toshiaki (Bizen 223)

A substantial tumbler with a distinctive texture. The sides have been incised to create vertical ridges and the yohen has resulted in contrasting tones. A natural red is evident along with areas of mottled "goma" (sesame), parts of which the ash has burnished to a gentle sheen. The ash residue etc. has also left a small bump on the inside of the tumbler. Traces of the ash glaze have adhered to the base of thetumbler, giving it a slight wobble when placed on a flat surface. The tumbler is ideal for drinking whisky or other spirits "on the rocks", but can equally be used as a yunomi for tea.

Approx. size: height 3.1"(8cm), width (at widest point) 3.8"(9.8cm),
capacity 8.1oz (240 ml)
