Kyoyaki handpainted Cranes yunomi teacup by Zenshou

The inspiration for this lovely cup comes from a painting by Hoitsu, a famous Japanese artist, active in the early 19th century and founder the Edo Rimpa school of painting of ( set up in the early 17th century by Ogata Korin).

The gold pigment gradually lightens in color as it wraps around the cup. As the cup is turned, the gaggle of hungry cranes looking for food at dawn make way for a lone crane heading home at dusk. A very elegant and atmospheric piece.
